“The Proliferation of Hope” commissioned by the Candiolo Cancer Institute (IT)

The Candiolo Cancer Institute asked me to illustrate their discoveries on proliferating brain cancer. It was challenging: I was asked to combine realistic cancer stem cells with poetic qualities, plus I’m a leukaemia survivor so anything cancer-related retraumatizes me. But I transformed fear into color, depicting the brain as a blossoming force where hope proliferates despite occasional dark flowers. My work accompanied the most recent article written by scientists at the Candiolo Cancer Institute to communicate their ground-breaking discoveries on the proliferation of cancer stem cells in the brain; my art was proposed by the Institute as magazine cover for the prestigious journal “Cell Reports”. The image is currently on display at the Institute.
